Matthews Yard sets the stage
Matthews Yard has reached the first target of a fund-raising campaign to set up a community theatre space in Croydon.
Over £5,000 has now been raised to build a stage, install lighting and refurbish The Studio at the centre which is located off Surrey Street in Croydon’s old town.
The next stage aims to raise £10,000 to provide better quality sound and lighting equipment. If the campaign is able to reach its final target of £25,000, this will provide a professional theatre space with improved seating, heating and ventilation.
Matthews Yard opened in April 2012 as a cafe and community centre. The venue hosts regular activities including a craft club, book club, poetry society, and charity fund-raising events. The addition of The Studio will provide a venue for live music, theatre and performing arts.
