Deloitte Ignite – Verdi/Wagner

Which is better, Verdi or Wagner? There’s only one way to find out…

This month’s Deloitte Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House celebrates the joint bicentenary of the two illustrious composers Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner.

Tickets to the Intelligence Squared Verdi versus Wagner debate, chaired by QI’s Stephen Fry, quickly sold out – but there is a chance to see the debate streamed live:

There’s also a talk by Fry, comparing the merits of the two musical maestros.

The festival stretches over four weekends in September, with a varied line-up of free and paid-for events, workshops and performances.

An interactive sculpture by set designer Es Devlin takes pride of place in the Covent Garden piazza, showing behind-the-scenes footage from a performance of Wagner’s Die Walkure (The Valkyrie)

Actor and director Simon Callow takes on the mantle of the celebrated composer in a one-man show entitled Inside Wagner’s Head. (Tickets priced £7-£25)

Tickets and information about the event are available from the Royal Opera House
